2006 marked Johnny Sauter’s sixth season of competition in the NASCAR Busch Series and after turning in consistent weekly performances, he finished eighth in the final standings. Partnering for the first time this season with technology-based Haas CNC Racing, while continuing his relationship with primary sponsor Yellow Transportation, Sauter captured one pole, two top-five, eight top-10 and 18 top-15 finishes.
“We were able to be successful due to the team resources, the guys who supported me and the fact that everyone at Yellow put their confidence in me for another season,” Sauter said. “We went into every week focused on the win but 2006 was probably the most competitive season in Busch Series history. Everyone put in their best effort and in the end, we were able to give Yellow their first-ever top-ten points finish.”
Known for his aggressive style, Sauter says he approached the 2006 season with the same tenacity he’s become known for over the years, but with a focus on making wiser choices.
“The best way to explain it is I’ve learned the difference between being overly aggressive and being aggressive in a productive way,” said Sauter. “Our focus was to take a smart and calculated approach to the entire season through one race at a time with the overall goal being to create winning possibilities through preparation and teamwork. I’m proud of the performance of Team Yellow in 2006 and look to build on our progress in the coming season.”
